I guess after being told that often enough, I just decided to accept my fate and try to be intentionally funny. I share my unique perspective on life in several venues. My Funny Major Medical

The Pipestone Flyer is home to a diverse and dedicated group of local writers; a number of which have achieved some amazing accomplishments during their tenure with the paper and beyond. Now another of our writers has a new feather in their cap. Flyer columnist, Chris McKerracher, along with a host of other talented humourists, have created an anthology of hilarious hospital tales. Entitled “My Funny Major Medical”, the book is now available in paperback or in a downloadable Kindle version on the Amazon website.
“It was really exciting to be involved in the project,” smiled McKerracher. “The other writers in the book have great material and a lot of experience in the humour field. Lin did a great job pulling it all together.”
The person McKerracher was referring to was Linton Robinson, an established humourist with over a dozen comedic books to his credit. He and McKerracher met through the social media site LinkedIn, where they are members of a writing forum/group. Robinson invited McKerracher and a number of other site members to submit articles for the publication and eventually ended up selecting two of McKerracher’s pieces for the book.
Robinson, himself an award-winning columnist, sees the book as a tool for writers in an era in which it's hard to sell humor. "It's weird. Everybody loves a laugh, but editors are afraid to buy humor. When I was a kid every newspaper had several humor columnists, now there are only a couple. Who has emerged since Dave Barry and Dave Sedaris? So there's these hilarious writers out there you never heard of. Lots of these people write syndicated columns or TV shows or comedy sketches, but you don't see their books in stores. This type of anthology is sort of a promotional collective for writers, an opportunity to get read, get into stores, and benefit from the combined efforts of all. Our first anthology was basically a Valentine's day gift, this one is sort of a "get well card" and present for health professionals. And, of course, anybody who has come in contact with health care and can finally laugh about it."
Like the Flyer’s own humourist, for co-contributor Cindy Brown, a humor blogger from Fillmore, Illinois, this has been an excellent opportunity to debut her tee hee talents in book form.
"My Funny Major Medical” is my first book. I was thrilled to read it and find that it doesn't suck," said the newbie.
Fellow contributor and Los Angeles humour blogger Barb Best, who won the Erma Bombeck GLOBAL award in 2010, was equally pleased with the project, “I was eager to work with editors Karla Telega and Lin Robinson again, plus to be between the covers with funny writers whose work I enjoy.”
Telega, who, along with Robinson, edited the book, is an award winning South Carolina humor writer, and author of the book, “Box of Rocks”. Her article, “Bedside Miss-Manners” leads off the tome.
Other humourists whose work graces the pages of the edition include; Lisa Tagnola, a New York author with a number of books to her credit including “The Triple Double Oreogasm” and the aforementioned Linton Robinson Anthology, “My Funny Valentine”, Mike Cyra, a Seattle based humourist who penned the award-winning ebook “Emergency Laughter”,and Cammy May Hunnicut, lingerie model, and writer of the saucy hit, “"Considerations Prior To Shooting Your Boyfriend Right In The Nuts".
In addition to the talented people already mentioned, the book features over two dozen more hilarious new humourists, as well as other assorted hilarious health-related hijinks. The Pipestone Flyer is proud to have one of their writers be a part of this stellar group.
